Business Coaching for Small Businesses
Do you struggle with feeling you and your company may be lost
in the weeds?
We can help you with that.
Do you struggle with feeling you and your company may be lost
in the weeds?
We can help you with that.
We are a small team of professionals that leverage our extensive and diverse expertise to lead, guide and coach individuals and organizations in achieving greater efficiency and excellence by optimizing resources and processes.
Our services are neither industry-specific nor functionally focused; our approach to each engagement can be easily customized to the specific needs of any organization. We use a highly collaborative three-step process that quickly brings all pertinent issues into focus so the best path to achievement can be efficiently plotted and executed.
Discovery
The organizational discovery is designed to allow us to go beyond a client just presenting their problems, to uncovering how the problems are being managed. We use interviews and a physical review of the operation to gain a good perspective of what is working well and not so well. The next step is to create a discovery report.
The recommendations created during this phase represent our professional opinions based on our combined training, skills and experience with making personnel, process and technology improvements across many industries. The recommendations become the basis for creating a proposal with specific tasks that can be executed during the Achievement phases.
Assessment
During this phase, we first focus on what you are doing well. Then, we look at areas where there could be problems. Most of the effort in this step is performing a deep dive into current and/or proposed processes, procedures and financial operations.
In addition to the operations review, we deploy human assessment tools and coaching. We have found that utilizing these tools during this step is necessary for establishing a common language across the organization, which is key to building trust between all participants. Without that trust, relationships cannot be created and the desired results from the achievement step will not be completely realized.
Achievement
The achievement step is all about the personnel. Our goal during the achievement phase is to teach and guide the participants through the steps of the plan. We are there with them, but we are not doing the work for them. We are firm believers that, when the plan is complete, we should not be needed, and the knowledge required to achieve continuous improvement should be embedded in the minds of the participants.
Change and process improvements do not have to be costly and painful. We want to share our perspectives with you and help you make substantial improvements in your performance, identify breakthrough opportunities for growth and gain a competitive advantage over your competitors.
Gregory H. Irwin
Gregory has spent his entire life observing and analyzing how social, cultural, and environmental influences impact the way people interact with each other and their environment. The knowledge gained from this effort has been instrumental in his success across a wide variety of jobs and industries.
His career started with the U.S. Air Force where he learned the value of proper training, leading by example, and adaptability. His military service was followed by operations and information technology management jobs at Lockheed Martin and Alcoa. While there he was able to significantly impact each company’s financial bottom line by leading his organization in the identification and elimination of wasteful processes as well as the efficient implementation of recent technology.
In the years leading up to 2008, Irwin held various sales, marketing and consulting management positions at Deloitte Consulting, Oracle Corporation, Info-Power International and Signum Group. His responsibilities during that time gave him ample opportunities to increase and refine his skills at enlightening, empowering, and engaging his subordinates, peers, and customers. Whether it was acting as the driving force in the development of new software, teaching individuals how to embrace and capitalize on the implementation of new processes or helping companies grow their sales, he always made a difference. From 2004 to 2023 he owned and managed a printing and marketing services company. During that time, he leveraged his extensive management expertise in sales, marketing, financial controls, and manufacturing operations to develop and implement innovative solutions that, increased sales, reduced cost, increased productivity and improved employee and customer satisfaction. In 2015, he created Transitional Initiatives so he could focus more time on helping individuals and organizations improve the way they think, act, and achieve.
A bachelor’s degree in industrial technology and a master’s degree in operations management have equally contributed to Irwin’s ability to develop and deliver hundreds of training programs on topics including self-managed work teams, organizational change management, sales effectiveness, cross-functional team dynamics and re-scripting behaviors for success.
Over the years he has coached and mentored many subordinates, peers, and clients. The majority of whom have gone on to be successful leaders in a wide spectrum of careers. Greg’s thought leadership coupled with his charisma has produced a career filled with opportunities to be a conference speaker, seminar leader, magazine article contributor, consultant, television guest and advisor to project teams as well as senior corporate executives.
The spirit of Transitional Initiatives comes from one of Greg's favorite sayings, “The most effective actions taken are complex in thought but simple in execution.”
With that as a guiding principle, we use tools and methodologies that are simple to execute, but capture all the complexities of our customers’ challenges. We engage at multiple levels, collaborate on defining challenges, co-create solutions and then stand a-long side clients during the execution.
All of our services are custom tailored to the unique personality, needs and culture of the companies and individuals we assist. This approach enables us to quickly become a trusted advisor. It embraces the simple fact that every person and every company is as unique as they are similar.
Operational excellence is a top goal in every organization’s business plan. Management knows that, to achieve it, they must establish an environment that promotes sustainable growth and continuous improvement. There are many obstacles that stand in the way of achieving operational excellence and every organization, regardless of size and complexity, has its share of them. The most common are inefficient or redundant processes, conflicting goals and objectives, disengaged workers and ineffective communications.
We have created key programs that can be used to address the issues listed above, but we have a bigger goal in mind. In addition to helping you find the low-hanging fruit, we want to teach you how to seek out and capitalize on opportunities that don’t currently exist. To find those opportunities, your workforce must be enlightened, empowered and engaged.
Transitional Initiatives can help your organization lay the groundwork for building a culture of continuous improvement. Our core strengths are not only useful in helping you clarify, simplify and streamline your processes, but they can also be used to help you achieve true operational excellence.
Coaching by definition is a method of directing, instructing and training a person or group of people, with the aim to achieve some goal or develop specific skills.
Coaching in a practical sense is a professional relationship that helps individuals, teams and organizations improve both their performance and their satisfaction with their environment.
We provide several types of coaching.
